Lyndora, PA - 31 Aug 2019.  During the TNT Conference held at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Woodlawn Council 2161 was presented with the Gold Shield Award for promoting devotion to the Traditional Latin Mass.  Woodlawn Council has been sponsoring the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass at St. Titus Church in Aliquippa, PA, since the promulgation of our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI's apostolic letter, Summorum Pontificum, in 2007.  The presentation was made by the Relic Crusade, a pious association devoted to rescuing Holy Relics, and organizer of the conference.  The Relic Crusade's All Saints Shrine, located at St. Michael the Archangel Church, houses dozens of Holy Relics that are on display for the veneration of the faithful.

The TNT Conference opened with the Holy Rosary, a Traditional Latin High Mass offered by Fr. Ladis J. Cizik, Chaplain of Woodlawn Council, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.  Fr. Douglas Lorance, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Church, and Hermit David Care delivered conferences on devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and how to deal with current problems in the Church and society.  Conference attendees were afforded ample opportunity for Confession.  The conference concluded with a Holy Hour and Greek Catholic Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

The conference was well attended, with faithful hailing from St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church; Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish, Pittsburgh, PA, served by the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest; Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, Vienna, OH, served by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter; St. James Church, West End, Pittsburgh, PA, served by the Society of Saint Pius X; and several other parishes.

Report: Vigil of the Assumption 2019

On Wednesday, 14 August 2019, the Knights of Columbus Woodlawn Council 2161 Traditional Latin Mass Guild hosted a Solemn High Mass at St. Titus Church, Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, for the Vigil of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Canon Jean-Marie Moreau of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest offered the Mass, assisted by Canon John O'Connor as deacon and Canon William Avis as subdeacon.  Canon Avis is pastor of Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish in Pittsburgh, where the Traditional Latin Mass is offered daily, and where Canon O'Connor serves as Parochial Vicar.

Woodlawn Council was pleased to welcome Canon Moreau back to St. Titus Church.  From 2011-2016, Canon Moreau visited St. Titus numerous times to offer the Traditional Latin Mass before being transferred to the island nation of Mauritius, at the invitation of the local bishop, to found a Latin Mass community there.

After Mass, several of the local faithful joined Canon Moreau, Canon Avis, Canon O'Connor, and Fr. Ladis Cizik, Chaplain of Woodlawn Council 2161, for dinner at a local restaurant.

The members of the Knights of Columbus Woodlawn Council 2161 wish to extend their gratitude to Canon Moreau, Canon Avis, and Canon O'Connor for making this Solemn Mass in honor of Our Lady possible.

We also wish to thank the Pittsburgh Latin Mass Community, Inc., for providing the beautiful vestments and other liturgical and logistic support for this Solemn Mass.

O Queen Assumed into Heaven,
Pray for Us.

MINNEAPOLIS – 6 Aug 2019.  Kendrick Castillo, the 18-year-old hero who charged a shooter at his suburban Denver high school in May to save the lives of his classmates this year, was posthumously named a Knight of Columbus at the organization’s Supreme Convention in Minneapolis. Castillo’s parents were also presented the Caritas Medal, the second-highest honor of the Knights of Columbus.

Castillo was the only student to die in the shooting that day at STEM School Highlands Ranch. Kendrick’s father is an active member of the Knights, the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization, and Kendrick planned to join the Knights following his high school graduation. Kendrick’s parents, John and Maria Castillo, accepted the Caritas Medal on his behalf. Kendrick is just the fourth recipient of the award, which was created in 2013 to recognize extraordinary acts of charity and service.

After remarking on the heroism of Kendrick’s actions in an address to more than 2,000 convention attendees, Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson asked the audience if they agreed that Castillo should be granted full membership in the organization. The decision to affirm this proposal was unanimous.
