Report: Bishop Schneider's Pontifical Mass in Front Royal for Feast of Blessed Karl - 2022

On Friday, 21 October 2022, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, ORC, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Mary Most Holy in Astana, Kazakhstan, offered a Traditional Latin Solemn Pontifical Mass at Chelsea Academy's St. Thomas More Chapel in Front Royal, Virginia, for the Feast of Blessed Karl of Austria.  It was standing room only in the chapel for Mass.  A member of Woodlawn Council 2161 was in attendance.

Bishop Schneider began his sermon with these words, "We gather today in the spirit of the catacombs."  He has been banned from offering the Blessed Karl Mass in the Archdiocese of Washington, DC, as he had done for several years.  In recent years he has celebrated the feast day at a parish church in Gainesville, VA, but this year he was banned from offering the Traditional Latin Mass in a parish church, being forced to use a converted gymnasium chapel.

On Tuesday, 4 October 2022, Bishop Athanasius Schneider offered a Traditional Latin Mass at St. Peter Church in Steubenville, Ohio.  Members of the Knights of Columbus Woodlawn Council 2161 Traditional Latin Mass Guild were in attendance.

To a church filled nearly to capacity, Bishop Schneider began his sermon with these words, “The Catholic Faith is invincible!”  Later he stated, “We cannot view millions falling away into apostasy as a loss, but a cleansing.”

Thank you to Fr. Timothy Huffman, Pastor of St. Peter Church, and professional photographer Allison Girone for granting us permission to post the above photos.  Additional photos of Bishop Schneider's Mass can be viewed at Allison's website, here.
